From “Song of the Year” to “Best Female MVP”, vocalist Busiswa’s star just keeps shining brighter. The talented musician took home the win at the Soundcity MVP awards in Lagos, Nigeria, at the weekend.

With performances from A-list celebrities, Busiswa gave a taste of South African dance with her electric dance moves and performance.

Burna Boy took home four awards on the night, including “African Artist of the Year”.

Busiswa was up against the likes of Niniola, who had a great 2018, Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage, Shekhinah, Simi, Becca and Efya.

The 30-year-old promises to have an even better 2019, after Prince Kaybee’s Banomoya, the song she features on, came out on top as the song of the new year.

At her acceptance speech, she thanked fellow nominees Savage and Alade for making her feel like “a boss”.

“That I could be a queen on my continent. Thank you Africa for embracing me. I want to tell every young girl from the rural areas of South African townships, anybody can do it if I can do it.”

Though she is not well-known in Nigeria, her performance made her the talk of the town on the social media streets, with people praising her performance as world-class.

Busiswa will also be making moves as she co-hosts the second season of MTV Base’s hit docuseries Gqom Nation. Working alongside Ntando Duma, the new season will see open auditions for potential dancers from across KwaZulu-Natal communities.

“‘Gqom Nation’ is one of the first shows that is specifically broadcasting Gqom culture to the audiences since its growth and this genre is certainly taking over the world. I am ecstatic to be a part of this evolution,” she said.

The show premieres on Friday, January 25, on MTV base (DStv channel 322).
